    1st Whey Protein Enhanced with HICA

    HICA (L-alpha-hydroxy-isocaproic acid or leucic acid) is a natural metabolite of leucine, which is the branch chain amino acid that has the greatest effect on protein synthesis. HICA helps the muscle in 2 ways: increases protein synthesis (anabolism) by constantly providing a fresh supply of leucine for muscle repair and decreases muscle protein breakdown (catabolism) by clearing the buildup of toxic waste.

    This is where HICA comes from. As leucine is degraded, new chemicals are formed which swap out the NH2 (amidogen..aka ammonia) and replenishes the muscle’s supply of glutamine and alanine. This process turns the leucine into a-ketoisocaproic acid (KICA) and the hydroxyl-analog of KICA, which is HICA.

    There isn’t much HICA that converts from leucine, so simply taking more leucine will not deliver the same results from taking HICA directly.

    HICA works best when the muscles are pushed. So if you are under 18 or don’t really push yourself in the gym, HICA will not have much affect on your body. If however you are a bit older and/or are pushing yourself very hard in the gym to see improvements, HICA will work to do the following:

    • Accelerates workout recovery – As opposed to leucine and KICA, HICA has shown to absorb some of the lactic acid from strenuous exercise, helping to maintain a balanced pH inside of the muscle cell. This is important because when pH dips far below normal levels, the muscle cell stops pumping out ATP and isn’t able to produce anymore until it has had adequate time to recover.
    • Reduces delayed onset muscle soreness – Similar to lactic acid, ammonia is another type of waste buildup from vigorous activity. HICA in a nutshell is leucine that has had the ammonia swapped out with hydroxide. A reduction of ammonia buildup allows the muscles to work longer at higher intensity.
    • Increases lean muscle and strength – We all know the best way to develop more lean muscle mass in the gym is to pump out more reps per set. The only problem is muscle fatigue. Based on how HICA clears up a good amount of waste buildup (prevents muscle fatigue) and keeps a steady reserve of leucine (elevates protein synthesis), you have the building blocks of lean muscle mass and strength. Muscle cells produce more muscle protein when there is plenty of leucine available…HICA essentially triggers a signal to the muscle cells that they need to increase their anti-catabolic process.

      Premium protein that tastes good. Um, yes please!

      Never knew what HICA did, but my recovery time was definitely shorter. Also, waaaay more amino acids than other proteins on the market.

      The isolate powder blends super easily with no chunks.

      It's been a good 2 years since I've been active in the gym. I know enough about my body that the first week is hell. With the Whey Better protein, I thought it was strange that I wasn't SUPER sore. I want to be 100% clear that it's not like I'm completely good to go, but the soreness is mild at best. The quick recovery claim is legit. This is a MUST for anybody getting back into the gym after a long time away.

      I wrote this review for the Warrior stack, but wanted to post it here as well.

      Personal training is my job so I see a ton of stupid fake shit all the time. One of my clients told me about this stack and it actually sounded pretty decent. This is our 3rd month working with this client and his strength improved and body fat declined at a much accelerated rate than in the previous 2 months. I ended up trying this out for myself and definitely saw what I was hoping to see for myself.

      I never realized that whey proteins were really different from each other. Always figured that some had more sugar than others and that the rest were all the same just packaged different.

      Lot of people already said it but it really does help you recover faster and you don't feel all sore like the next day. Tastes good too

      Have to say how impressed I am with Whey Better. I was a bit skeptical that it would taste good because of the high bcaa but damn it was not bad at all. I just came off a cycle of Retabol and Muscle Attack. The protein did a good job maintaining my strength and gains....probably something I'm going to take regularly.

      Starting with the taste, the label says mix with 6 - 8 ounces, but the website says 12 - 16 ounces. I asked the customer service and they said using a little more water was found to taste much better. It really is much better with more water. Also make sure the water is super cold.

      Onto the effects. Biggest thing I noticed was how quickly I was recovering between sets. I've always sucked at pull ups. After about 4 or 5, I have to hop off and shake my arms out before knocking out the rest of the set. I found myself knocking out 7 - 8 and then resting a little while still hanging. No way to explain it but the protein because pull ups have NEVER been this easy.

      I realize how I probably sound like they paid me to write this, so I'll end with THIS SHIT WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      To CrazyMuscle --- can you guys create a stack with Muscle Attack and hook me up with a discount?? :)

      Let me preface that I am a bit of a snob when it comes to whey protein. I've been taking different ones for 10+ years and I know the good ones from the bad ones.

      When I first heard about Whey Better from a buddy of mine, I saw that the price was a little higher than what's out on the market. That's mainly because of...well, what's on the market. One of the best things about it is that it's a true WPI. You have to understand that too many companies label their protein as whey protein isolate, but they can get away with it because a small portion of their powder is isolate, the rest is concentrate. The amino profile is stellar and I feel the HICA really does help with recovery times as others have been saying.

      This in my opinion is one of the best proteins to hit the market in my honest opinion.

      I'd say the biggest thing I felt was the fact that my recovery times were shortened by a lot. I normally take a high quality WPI so the price wasn't a big shock to me. It was the hica that intrigued me the most about picking up a bottle. Muscle-wise, my gains were very consistent with the other WPI I've used in the past but man the fast recovery makes me a Whey Better fan haha

      I want to preface that I'm not an employee nor do I have a special partnership with Crazy Muscle. I'm a personal trainer who had a client that was taking Muscle Attack so I looked it up and came across the protein powder. I tried a bottle and based on my specific goals and standards, I gave it 5 stars. I want to be as honest as I can and let y'all know my thoughts on Whey Better Protein.

      First, it's one of the few protein brands on the market to fully list the entire amino acid profile. Based on the other brands I've used, the claims of having a better BCAA profile is absolutely true. One thing I noticed this past month was that my muscle tissue was feeling a lot harder. I saw a good amount of strength improvement so I'd have to attribute that to the protein synthesis from the extra leucine.

      Second, it has HiCA. To be honest, I had no idea what HICA was but I saw that Labrada nutrition has a product called HICA-Max which has some awesome reviews. Given the primary active ingredient is indeed HICA, the claims of recovering quickly and building quality lean muscle + strength are dead on. I saw big improvements with my strength and body composition. Probably the most exciting thing was a huge reduction in delayed onset muscle soreness (the thing that makes you feel extra sore the next day). I felt like I could literally do another chest workout the next day.

      Third, the taste was actually pretty darn true to "milk chocolate". I'm not saying it tastes like a hershey bar melted in milk, but with all of the leucine in it, the HICA, 1g fat and 0 sugar, it's way better than I would've expected because leucine tastes like dirt.

      Fourth, the price is not the cheapest especially if you are on a budget. The label is clean and all of the ingredients listed are not cheap ingredients. My advice would be to stick with a whey concentrate if you're looking to put on insane bulk. Yes, you are going to be ingesting a lot of fillers, fats, carbs, sugars, etc but who cares...you only care about getting huge right? However, if you are interested in quality lean muscle, elevated strength output and want to recover much faster, Whey Better Protein is worth it.

      My biggest issue was being battle-ready for the next mission while being overseas. If you're in the military, you know what i'm talkin' about. Tried Whey Better for about a week and a half now and I kid you not, it's helping me stay on my feet longer and even gives me a boost to get into the gym in the evenings.

      I'm starting my bulking phase now, so it's definitely something to check out if your training/work requires you to recover fast and be strong both physically and mentally.

      Okay at first, Whey Better protein seems a little pricey compared to the cheap shit you can buy at Walmart but I challenge you to seriously compare your current protein with this. From my personal experience, I think there are way more branch aminos, less fat, 0 sugar, lots of protein and most importantly...it's a true whey protein isolate. I seriously hate when protein companies say their product is a whey isolate when they have whey concentrate listed in the ingredients.

      Never heard of HICA until now, but looks like there are some studies out there that are showing really good results.

      I dunno, it makes sense to me in my head, hopefully this is helpful to someone out there.

      I like to switch up my workouts every 3 - 5 weeks to avoid plateuing. I just switched to a higher intensity interval training and the timing worked out because my whey better protein arrived the night before. After my first workout, I was pretty zapped. I took the protein powder with a little PB2 and ended up being able to go to class the next day when I should've been sore as hell.

      Really looking forward to seeing what this HICA thing is all about!!

      I was a beta customer for Whey Better (love the freaking name!) and I had a chance to taste all iterations of the protein. It got better and better every time, but one thing I did notice about my fitness was that I was lifting a lot harder and longer at the gym. I've been taking ON gold forever and after 1 month of being on Whey Better, I saw really big growth all of a sudden.

      Overall, I'd say if you are looking for a super high quality whey protein that will give you results, give it a shot!
